FOLLOWING THE RULES

When we decorated a living room recently, I invested way too much money in a custom ottoman upholstered in a beautiful chenille fabric. I had plans for this beautiful piece of furniture in our small, modest room as a feature piece. The room and layout I wanted wasn’t big enough for additional chairs, so the ottoman seemed like a perfect choice.

As it turns out, it has been an extremely good investment as a dog bed. Trying to discourage the dogs from being on the (yet to be scotch-guarded) couch, I encouraged them sit on the ottoman instead and before I knew it — it became their permanent resting place. It is right behind me as I work and perhaps the closest place to me without sleeping at my feet on the cool tiles. It is the perfect vantage point for viewing out the window without being told off for jumping on the couch and of course, is extremely comfortable for a 10kg canine. I have to admit, I like being able to hear Lily breathing deeply as she dreams. Perhaps not so happy when she lets “fluffy off the leash” as it is so affectionately termed in our house. This girl can evacuate a room, quick smart.

So here is a little celebration of my little Lily for following the rules and always staying on her très expensive dog bed and knowing the couch is out of bounds. I will not however, be posting photo evidence of Lulu ignoring the rules as always and claiming the couch as her own. No sir. The girl is 40cm long but can take up a 3 seat lounge like no-one else.

UPDATE

A portrait of Lily taken last month on some very old film and a very old camera. I love it.

I’ve been experimenting with film a little more lately. I love that it pushes me to think about a shot before I click the shutter and that the results are not instantaneous. Digital while wonderful, can make me feel a little complacent sometimes. There is something intangible about waiting a few weeks for your film to be developed before knowing if your shot turned out.

I’m looking forward to trying out a new film camera of mine while in Queensland this week. We are off to Brisbane today and then onto Noosa to support Grant who is competing in the Noosa Triathlon this weekend. Its his first triathlon in a few years and has been training so hard, its going to be great to see him cross the finish line.

In the meantime, I will be accessing emails and phone messages periodically while we are away and I will be back on deck Thursday week.

HIBERNATION

Its been a while since the girls have been on the blog. I have been wanting to update for a while but each time I did they were laying horizontal and were completely uninteresting to anyone except us who oooh and ahhh over every cute they do.

I would love to update you on their adventures and say that they have been having an excellent and exciting winter but then I would be lying. In fact, they have been hibernating like bears and sleeping in unison for what seems like months. I know Lily is dreaming of sunshine, large fields of grass and chasing balls and Lulu is in desperate need of a haircut and much needed exercise (much like her mother). Bring on Spring.

house guest

This week has absolutely flown by! A couple of dinner dates, a few book designs, recovering from a wedding AND we have a house guest to stay for the weekend. My parents puppy, Billy, has come to stay while they are in Bali for a wedding. Its quite funny that both of my parents have been two of the last three weddings I shot. Unfortunately though I am not going to this one in Bali – although I have daydreamed about it.

I love it when Billy comes to stay but I think Lulu loves it more. She won’t leave him alone and is always in his face, but I think he enjoys the attention. He is a terrible snorer though and between him, Lulu and Lily all sleeping at the one time in my office the noise just reverberates off the walls.

These were actually taken when Billy stayed back in January. I’ve been meaning to post them but kept putting it off. So here they are :)

lazy bones

Most mornings when I come out of the bathroom, I am greeted by this sight. Its something I look forward to now. She curls up just below my pillow and while she doesn’t move her head, her eyes follow me everywhere watching what I am doing.

She’s never far from me and lately I have started to get worried if she isn’t within a 2 metre radius. Most days she’s snoring on the couch behind me or sleeping on my feet under the desk. She’s my little lazy bones. And she’s in need of a haircut quite clearly by the look of those feet.

funny face

We had a couple of birthdays around here during January. Both Lulu and Lily turned 4 years old and on Lily’s birthday which was also Australia Day, we headed out the back and got a few portraits. Isn’t she the cutest?

And just for laughs I thought I would share this out-take. I have no idea what happened for this face to appear but I love it :) She can make the funniest faces.

A WORD FROM LILY

If you received a Christmas card from us this year, you will have already seen this but I wanted to post it too. Lulu was not quite in the mood to be shot for our Christmas card so Lily got the front cover all to herself.

Such a good girl :) From Lily and all of us in the crazy house, Merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.
