RELISH

Something I have learnt to do recently is to simply breath and revel in other people’s joy. Watching a child “march to the beat of his own drum” is something I love and where I used to perhaps try to get them to “remember your manners” or “stop being silly” is now a quiet appreciation for being a child who is simply acting on instinct, usually for simply pleasure and not knowing anything different. It is something that has mellowed me out I think and allowed me to remember how to be a kid again and revel in other people actually doing so.

A perfect example of one instance is this. There is always one thing on our list when Liam comes to stay and that is visiting the beach. Something that is newer but no doubt also becoming a must for Liam is hitting the shower in our ensuite straight after. It is a huge shower and once I left him to wash himself and when I came back I caught him with both showers on just stomping puddles back and forth, back and forth with Lily watching on intently. I don’t think there was much washing going on but who cares. He was quite literally marching to the beat of his own drum, relishing the moment. I could have watched his antics for hours.

Take the time and revel in your own child today. Perhaps it is the way they hold their fork, sing to themselves in the shower or perhaps saying something wonderfully profound without any agenda. You might find you smiling to yourself wanting to join in on the action.

FAMILY OF FOUR

Today’s post is an extra special one because this is the result of the Inaugural Free Portrait Session that I held last year. Megan submitted a beautiful entry that I was able to empathise with understanding the pressures and pleasures of a blended family.

I was pleased when she contacted me in early April to set up the session and we managed to land on a beautiful early autumn day with inspiring autumn colour and light. You might recognise one of the girls from a post a couple of weeks ago. As you can see, her sister is pretty spectacular too :)

HAPPY THURSDAY

Why is it a happy Thursday you ask? A number of reasons.

Number one . . . The wonderful Ms Polka Dot at Polka Dot Bride has just featured Grant and Issy’s “to die for” wedding from February. I never get tired of looking at their collection.

Number two . . . Grant is coming home tonight after a full 7 nights away for work. Its the longest we’ve ever been apart I think. I’m making a special dinner tonight for him :)

Number three . . . My beautiful rose climber has begun its autumn flourish (yes, that is them below). I love being able to pick fresh flowers from the garden. Spring should be wonderful with two new rose bushes and a bunch of poppies planted last weekend.

Number four . . . A day off yesterday with a well overdue lunch with a number of photographer friends in Fremantle (I love Freo these days) and then a family dinner celebrating the 1st birthday of little Stevie. She is getting even more beautiful every day.

Number five . . . Did I mention that Grant gets back tonight?

UPDATE

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback I have been getting for the new sites! It makes life much easier having a specific location for each portraits and weddings for me and I believe for my clients :)

I have a few posts in the works including a birthday, another dog portrait, a few slideshows from weddings recently that I never had the chance to put up and a few other things so keep an eye out.

In the meantime, I thought I would share a quick shot of my mothers day gift from Lily and Lulu. I couldn’t believe it when I saw these yellow tulips that I nearly squealed with delight! All those years living up north with nothing but spinafex have given me a greater appreciation for seasonal flowers and especially bulbs. These would make anyone happy :)
