Yearly Archives: 2008

2008

I felt that I needed to reflect and acknowledge the phoenominal year that 2008 was. When I started 2008 I was just developing my business while still working another job full time. I managed to develop a client base and materialise my dream of being a lifestyle photographer into a reality. In fact, my reality is now that I am no longer working another job and 2009 will mean more time for me, more time for my family and more time for my clients.

I feel so lucky to have met the people I have, worked with and learnt from such talented photographers nationally and internationally, reconnected with people I haven’t seen in decades or in fact ever, developed relationships with beautiful clients that allow me into their homes to document their lives and all the while having a supportive and loving family behind me pushing me to reach and hold onto my dreams with both hands. I have learnt so much and have grown tremendously as a photographer. Its fun to look back to 2007 and see how far I have come along as I fine tune my craft into something that reflects who I am.

I never could have foreseen what 2008 had in store for me. I have been so lucky both personally and professionally but there have been bumps along the way that I have learnt and moved on from. I am amazed that I get to call this passion my job.

I have big plans for 2009. Big plans. I can’t wait.

Happy new year to my clients, my friends and my family. I hope 2009 is good to you.  I am off to have a cold, cold glass of champagne and ring in the new year and celebrate the year that was :)

crackers and crack-ups

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone’s day was as glorious as mine was. I was incredibly spoiled by my #1 man (more on that later) and just enjoyed kicking back and spending time with my family. We are off for the Boxing Day celebrations today but I thought I would let you in on possibly one of the better christmas cracker jokes I have come across.

Have a great weekend :)

A WORD FROM LILY

If you received a Christmas card from us this year, you will have already seen this but I wanted to post it too. Lulu was not quite in the mood to be shot for our Christmas card so Lily got the front cover all to herself.

Such a good girl :) From Lily and all of us in the crazy house, Merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.

all things nice

Isn’t she the most adorable little girl you have ever seen? I have had a string of blue eyed babies over the last few months and trust me when I tell you that her eyes really are that colour.

idols

We made our annual pilgrimage to Busselton for the WA Ironman this weekend and although I missed out on Ben’s triathlon, I managed to catch the main event on Sunday. I took heaps of photos but the ones I keep coming back to are these ones of Ben.

Without a doubt, Jason Shortis is his triathlete of choice. He idolises the man to the point of knowing each of his sponsors and quite possibly all of his kids names and perhaps what brand of undies the man wears. Unfortunately for Jason this has meant Ben has developed an almost stalker quality about him and since Jason sent him a gift last year, all bets are off and Ben now knows that they are friends.

I loved watching Ben and the expectation as Jason would come running around the corner. We would wait and see if he had moved up from 5th to 3rd to 2nd and Ben would grab the sign and run down to the side of the course. We were joking around with Ben as we imagined Ben jumping out from behind the portaloo, yelling “GO JASON!” and scaring the bejebus out of Jason and promptly giving the poor man a heart attack. Ben was that intense.

For all his hard work he got a handshake from the man himself while standing in the shoot with his sign and a number of “Thanks mate” from Jason as he ran and he could not have been happier.

I am so glad Jason Shortis is his idol. I’m not sure I’d be nearly so proud if it were Snoop Dogg.

life (as an artform)

I feel so renewed and alive.

The past 3 days have been enlightening and awakening and left me feeling so motivated and confident that I am a little overwhelmed about where to start. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the life (as an artform) workshop but I did know I wanted to experience it and be a part of it. I knew it would be different to anything else I have encountered but it went beyond my expectations.

I will say that Jesh is everything I have heard he is and so much more. I really cannot explain how having worked with him (and the 16 other photographers that shared my journey) has encouraged me to continue on this path I have chosen and to evolve my life and my business while still maintaining and nurturing that oh so precious emotional connection with my clients and my family. Sometimes we get so caught up in the technical aspects of our lives and work that we forget the emotional connections that make us who we are. This I remember and this is what I am inviting back into my life.

I can feel my breath catching as I write this remembering everything from this past week and knowing the possibilities I hold within myself as I move forward.

A huge thanks to Samm Blake for hosting the workshop and for being the catalyst that brought Jesh here and again to Jesh for coming to little old Perth to connect with us.

I am more grateful than words can express.

burst

I was pottering around the garden not long ago reveling in all the spring goodness and enjoying the rain we were getting so much of when I took this. I love the green.

I am out of the office at a workshop and will be soaking up the awesomeness that is Jesh de Rox for the next few days. I am still amazed that I received this opportunity and can’t wait to absorb everything Jesh has to offer. A whole 3 days with Jesh and a number of Perth’s talented photographers is going to be overwhelming but oh so wonderful.

To my lovely clients – Please be patient and I will return messages and emails a little less quickly over the next few days.
