300th blog post!

As I was preparing for blogging this week, I realised that this post would be the 300th post on my blog! It got me thinking about why I blog and who I blog for and really how blogging is such a large part of my identity as a photographer and a business woman.

There are times when I stop and think about who is it out there reading because my stats tell me there are some 150 each day that drop by. Last year as I was shopping, I was approached by a lady who asked if I was who she thought I was. As a reader of the blog since it almost began, she told me how much she loved it and I was more than a little taken aback. My step-kids were silent perhaps thinking they were destined to be the next Kardashian clan with this moment of recognition. I wanted to hug her right then and tell her how much it meant to me that she read my little blog and that I appreciated it more than I could say. It happened again a few months back and I am pretty sure I didn’t stop smiling for hours.

I’ve always felt the term blogger wasn’t right for me because I see a blogger as someone who often blogs other peoples images. “Journal” sounds a bit too Sweet Valley High but whatever you want to call it, my blog was always an extension of my website and my brand. My website and portfolio often remain static as a professional store front for prospective clients while my blog is continually changing with new weddings and engagements, sneak peeks into my life and those things that I am passionate about or peak my interest. It has meant that so many brides have booked me without meeting me because they know me from reading the blog that I love my husband, I love my family, I have a dry sense of humour and watch too much Bravo TV.

There are times when I blog that I feel it is more for me than others but then I receive a lovely comment or an email from a reader that makes my day complete. So thank you to all of you reading!

And because I am a celebratory mood, the first 3 commenters will receive an iTunes gift card straight from me to you!

I’ll leave you with this sneak peek of a style shoot I was recently a part of. I can’t wait to show you more!

I’ve been reading your blog since I first met you in 2009 and feel like I’ve been able to re-live my own wedding through the beautiful pictures you take. It’s been amazing to see the journey you have been on and how much your images have grown over that time.

Oh, congratulations on 300 lovely posts! I totally hear what you’re saying about the term “blogger”- it’s something that seems to have happened over the last few years, the shift in thinking towards “bloggers” being those who often post others’ images. It can make it a little hard to fit in and find your place, when all the advice to “bloggers” seems targeted at people who are most definitely Not Me.

It’s so great to see how far you’ve come over the last few years, as a photographer, blogger and business woman. You’re one of my favourite inspirations!
