Portraits of Phoebe

This year has seen my confidence grow dramatically as an artist. I’ve begun to really push myself and invest myself more and more in each photograph I take, professionally and personally. This means taking chances and pushing the boundaries. Sure sometimes what I see in my head may not work but I now have the confidence to at least try and fail if need be. Failing is just one more step towards succeeding and I am no longer afraid to fail if it means I am growing.

During the “off season” I set myself a few challenges as I try to better myself as a photographer. I have a few different concepts in mind and one wintery afternoon earlier this month, Phoebe and I brainstormed a portrait session I had wanted to bring to life for a while and headed to the beach. I was thinking messy hair, vintage cameras, a boyfriend cardi and lots of frolicking on the beach inspired by these three, rather iconic images.

To say I am delighted with this series of images is an understatement. The light, the feeling, the movement . . . I feel it is all a true representation of me. This isn’t to say that I don’t have room for improvement – I absolutely do. But for now I can just look at these and be happy with this challenge and coming out the other side.
