Just the girls

My routine just before he comes home is usually frantically emptying and packing the dishwasher, washing the sheets and replacing the empty milo container. The signs that I have let the house rule slide for a little while he has been away and indulged in a few naughty habits I would never think of doing while Grant is at home. Like letting Lily and Lulu sleep in bed with me or being to lazy to make a proper dinner that I just have mushrooms on toast.

I’m not very good all by myself when he isn’t here for days on end and every little sound in the night has me paranoid of someone casing our house waiting for the right moment to pounce. I am sure the criminals in Perth have better things to do with their time than come up with ways to scare the life out of me but that is just how my mind works. Before I know it I’ve created a whole lot of “what if’s” and I’ve checked all the windows and doors for the 5th time.

At the moment Grant has been away with Ben at the National Triathlon Championships that Ben is competing in so again I am home with the girls. Whenever he is away I am sure the girls know that I am a little more vulnerable and they follow my every move. They will sleep in watching distance but if I move to another room they are up and then finding another place to sleep so long as its near me. I can’t go to the bathroom without finding Lulu sleeping outside the door when I come out.

In return for their watchful eye, I let them sleep in bed with me while he is away. Its a “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours while you are sleeping and try to use your head as a pillow” situation. I get absolutely no sleep with them getting up and down, trying to get under the covers and Lulu sleeping on my head but I wouldn’t have it any other way. They are my little safety blankets while Grant is away.

This is where Lily is at the moment. After she has slept in the bed the night before, she spends all day in bed and can watch me from there as I work. Every now and then I can hear her moan as she stretches and warms herself in the sun amongst my 300 thread count sheets. Its a tough life but she is my little guard dog, so she deserves it. At least, that is what I will tell Grant :)
